Canine care center to open first Alabama location in metro Birmingham

A dog care facility is making a big push in the Birmingham market.

The Dog Stop is opening its first Alabama location in Trussville in March. As many as four more locations are also in the works for the metro area.

Co-founders Jesse Coslov and Chris Kane said Homewood, Hoover, Chelsea, Oxmoor Road and Mountain Brook would be ideal locations for their business.

“The way Americans view their dogs today has definitely evolved from a time when Fido was relegated to the back yard, perhaps tethered to a chain,” Coslov said. “Most dog owners view them as part of the family and, as a result, are spending more money than ever on dog-related goods and services. As dog owners ourselves, we understand the growing need to keep our dogs healthy, give them lots of love and socialization, and do what’s best for them.”

The canine care center offers day care, boarding, grooming, obedience training, in-home services, dog walking and a retail store.

“Our facilities exist to promote healthy and happy dogs through socialization, physical and mental exercise and a holistic retail approach,” Kane said. “Whether it’s running in our play yards, socializing with friends, or just lounging around, The Dog Stop is your one-stop shop for all of your pup’s wants and needs.”

Based in Pittsburgh, the Dog Stop has 11 locations in four states. An additional 40 stores are slated to open across the country. Franchise opportunities are available. The total investment to open a Dog Stop location ranges from $254,350 to $488,300, which includes a $47,000 franchise fee.
